Live Performances

Creation of a 20–25 minute live visual and musical performance, embodied through the art of real-time luminous calligraphy, highlighting key words woven into a narrative storyline drawn from and developed out of the poetic legacy of two major figures of Sufism: Jalāl ad-Dīn Rūmī (Persian poet, jurist, theologian, and spiritual master, and his major work The Sea of Spirituality), and Al-Hallāj (Persian mystic, poet, and itinerant preacher, whose poetry explores the inner journey and the annihilation of the self, fanā).

The performance is structured as a duo/dialogue between the two poets, represented by THE BREATH (Rumi) and THE FLAME (Hallāj), in their duality and complementarity.

The musical universe supports this duality through live rhythms, instruments, and influences, while key poetic phrases—sung or declaimed—bind the storyline to the calligraphy, visuals, and backgrounds.

The musical world (embodied by two musicians facing one another) and the visual world (created by the calligrapher positioned at the center of the stage) merge and interact sensorially to support the narrative poetry of the performance.

The mountainous setting of Mleiha completes the tableau of this multidisciplinary artistic performance, immersing the audience in a poetic universe centered on the universality and harmony of Sufism.
